It looked like an even phonier variant of its japanese cousin, Manda, from ATRAGON, and had the cool ability to hack up animated acid-phlegm. And while that was all well and good, the film itslef was boring to the point of being painful.Bunche (pop culture ronin)https://www.blogger.com/profile/11831085937894725459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7415178.post-69279011103517978762007-06-13T10:52:00.000-04:002007-06-13T10:52:00.000-04:00Saturday mornings, when the weather was foul or mo...Saturday mornings, when the weather was foul or mom would run out of energy asking us to go play outside, were punctuated with a block of monster/horror films. On Boston's WLVI, TV 56 (a UHF channel for those who remember life before digital and the remote) was 'Creature Feature' which soon, blissfully, became 'Creature Double Feature.'

From that, Reptilicus.

there was no Saturday more anticipated than a 2x bock of rubber suited mayhem. Yes, ANY Godzilla / Gamera / Rodan film was a welcome treat (as well as seeing the dad from 'Little House' transform into a scraggly-toothed werewolf), but Reptilicus -- there was bliss.

(My suggestion: Let the memories of these great features live in your mind's eye. Viewed later in life, there is only shallow disappointment and an urge to shepherd a remake, that would, inevitably, disintegrate into a SFX poo-fest starring Pullman, Paxton, or Broderick.)

Directed by (I kid you not) Bang & Pink.
Invincible...Indestructible!
What was this awesome BEAST born 50 million years out of time?
Reptilicus.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7415178.post-47764993894758669532007-06-12T21:58:00.000-04:002007-06-12T21:58:00.000-04:00I was always out playing. I always liked indulging in athletics a lot better.Jaredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10335380869775400977noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7415178.post-77875388874369328292007-06-12T17:50:00.000-04:002007-06-12T17:50:00.000-04:00Mommy didn't take me to many kid's films, so we sa...Mommy didn't take me to many kid's films, so we saw (and read) lots of horror (and some raucous comedy).

Films that warped my mind, freaked me out, and permanently changed my outlook on cinema and storytelling (before I hit my 20s):

The Legend of Boggy Creek (Sort of a backwoods Bigfoot mockumentary. When I got home after seeing it, I locked all the windows and closed all the shades.)

Let's Kill Uncle Before Uncle Kills Us (Kid power!)

The Birds (Pet attacks!)

Day of the Triffids (Plant attacks!)

Mad Monster Party (Monsters are very chill when not being threatened.)

Fantastic Planet (Part of a double-feature that confounded and intrigued my innocent brain.)

Mothra (I wanted my very own pocket-sized Japanese twins to dress in Barbie clothes (Minds out of the gutter, boys).)

Son of Godzilla (I LIKED the baby and Godzilla's paternal instincts.)

Star Wars (I saw it at Loews Astor Plaza with a bunch of girls from my summer camp as part of a field trip and thought it would be a boring "Boy's" movie. HA!)

The Thing (The effects blew me away.)

Crowhaven Farm (A TV movie starring Dick Van Dyke's ex-wife who dies a horrible TV death. It was pretty intense for the "4:30 Movie" and made me scared of Amish people until I tried Shoo-Fly Pie.)

The Other (I read the book before I saw it and still didn't quite get it, but I was only 7 or 8 and it was still pretty creepy.)

Alien and Aliens (Ahh, "Aliens," the movie that taught me what being a good mom is all about.)

Poseidon Adventure (original)(They killed the hero, the bimbo, AND the Jewish grandma? WTF?!!)

Planet of the Apes (original) (Watch the excavation scene again and see just how much expression Maurice Evans puts into that honkin' hunk of Latex.)

A couple of scenes are burned into my memory (Bunche, help me with the film names, wouldja?):

Someone walks into a dark, B&W basement laboratory. A refrigerator is opened and an apothecary jar filled with eyes falls out and crashes on the floor.

A decapitated vampire/warlock walks around taking orders from the disembodied head he carries around.

A woman is hypnotized and is taken back to her past life as a witch. The shrink hypnotizing her somehow switches places with her and is decapitated both in the flashback and in reality. (This movie was on a couple of years ago and I watched it again, but shame on me for not remembering the name.)

Greatest Spooky Intro for Horror Movies from Local TV Station: "Chiller Theater" on NY's WPIX (Saturday night, 8 p.m.). I'd watch whatever movie they had on just to see that.

If I think of more, can I add without being obnoxious?jordansmomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17086456194424048529noreply@blogger.com
