I CAN DREAM, CAN'T I?

I've been feeling very lonely and blue for about a week already and the other day's layoff's didn't help my emotional well-being, so usually when I find myself in a state like this I take solace in music. Well, that wasn't such a good idea this time around because I set my iTunes on random shuffle and got hit square in the face and heart with this classic from the Andrews Sisters, a song I frankly forgot I had. Those of you who know me well will most likely be able to suss out why this song brings to mind a very specific heartache, and upon hearing it a little while ago it just tore out my guts. I love music, but at times it can be my very worst enemy...

I CAN DREAM, CAN'T I?-Andrews Sisters (1949)
Words by Irving Kahal, Music by Sammy Fain

I can see
No matter how near you'll be
You'll never belong to me
But I can dream, can't I?
Can't I pretend that I'm locked in the bend of your embrace?
For dreams are just like wine
And I am drunk with mine

I'm aware
My heart is a sad affair
There's much disillusion there
But I can dream, can't I?
Can't I adore you
Although we are oceans apart?
I can't make you open your heart
But I can dream, can't I?

I'm aware
My heart is a sad affair
There's much disillusion there
But I can dream, can't I?
Can't I adore you
Although we are oceans apart?
I can't make you open your heart
But I can dream, can't I?

C'mon Steve, rally time. The world is a beautiful place, sometimes you just have to zoom in real close.
