R.I.P. BILL McKINNEY (1931-2011), aka THE GUY WHO IMMORTAILZED THE PHRASE "SQUEAL LIKE A PIG"

The mountain man — or would that be "mountin' man?" — who became the bane of Ned Beatty's existence.

The mere mention of Bill McKinney's all-too-memorable performance in DELIVERANCE (1972) is enough to instantly send mens' butt-cheeks a-clenching, so I'll just leave it at that...

  1. Poor Ned. An entire career reduced to four words. He loses his mind when people yell that to him in public and screams, "THAT WASN'T A FUNNY SCENE!!! IT WAS BRUTALITY!!!" lol Poor, poor Ned.

Deliverance will always be the role he is most associated with, but his most prominent role in a major motion picture is without a doubt..Captain "Redlegs" Terrill, the man who pursued Clint Eastwood in The Outlaw Josey Wales.

My personal favorite role of Mr. McKinney's, however, is the five minute cameo appearance he makes as the gas-fume breathing lunatic with the caged racoon in his back seat who picks up Eastwood and Jeff Bridges in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.

Rest well, Mr. McKinney, I will sorely miss your particular brand of celluloid villainy.

  3. You know, I have yet to see that movie. Long overdue, huh?

  4. McKinney was a good friend of Eastwood who got him employment occasionally. He was also a legendary wild man who loved a party like no other.
