OKAY, SO MAYBE THE CRIBBING IS MORE RECENT THAN THE "SPACE KOOK"

After reading yesterday's DOCTOR WHO rundown and seeing my comparison between the zombie spaceman in the episode "Silence in the Library" (see above) and the "Space Kook" from SCOOBY-DOO (see below),

illustrator and co-creator of Vertigo's Y: THE LAST MAN, — as well as uber-DOCTOR WHO-geek — Pia Guerra wrote in to remind me of another possible source for the creature's look:

J.G. Jones' symbolic cover image for the collected edition of the "One Small Step" story arc. Having edited this book, I'm kicking myself for having forgotten about it, but thankfully Pia's there to remind me.

So what do you say, dear readers? Blatant ripoff, or "homage?"
