THE JOKER BITES

What's not to love about a submission from an unidentified hopeful who depicts The Joker taking the place of some blindfolded guy's orally-kind girlfriend, biting off the poor bastard's unit, and then liberally applying malt vinegar to the wound?

This was received at Marvel not long after the shirt-lived craze over FAUST (remember that?), so I'm guessing this guy was influenced by that now-forgotten bit of adults-only mayhem.

Pure Genius. Didn't he end up writing and drawing CABLE?

Oh, gods - yes, I recall Faust.

David Quinn came looking for work with us at White Wolf, and gave me a bunch of issues as resume samples. I found the book fascinating in its train-wreck atrocity, but ultimately boring. Never got back in touch with Randy, because I really wasn't good at telling a fellow professional, "Well, I respect your ability to give your artist a bunch of really fucked-up shit to draw, but my book line requires actual writing ability." Faust's one redeeming feature was Tim Vigil's almost (but not quite) S. Clay Wilson-level talent for depicting compellingly absurd levels of blasphemy and carnage. I agree - this dude was probably a fan. Ah, the '90s!
