I just won a classic of bad taste album art from eBay for under fifteen bucks, and it's one of my all-time favorites. It's the infamous MOM'S APPLE PIE from 1972 (Brown Bag Records BB-14200), an LP that's remembered solely for its charming cover art that depicts a pretty baker licking her lips while offering you a juicy pie with a slice cut out of it.
It's all quite charming and innocuous, that is until you take a good like at the dripping area on the pie and realize it's actually an oozing pussy.
Hey, I find it funny, me being all mature and shit, but apparently someone in either the record company or the general public was offended by the friendly orifice, so subsequent pressings featured the same illustration but with the vaginal vista obscured by bricks.
The funniest thing about this is that the bricked-over version is supposedly more rare than the gynecological original. I don't know about you, but I'll take pussy over bricks any day!
And now that I've scored this treasure, my next objective is the first album by Mama Lion — also from 1972 — , a band that has almost totally faded into obscurity, the "almost" due to a memorable gatefold cover that featured lead singer Lynn Carey suckling a lion cub.
I think it's kind of sweet in a "love of nature" kind of way, and it definitely reminds me of the vibe of the early 1970's, a period that hadn't quite made its way out of the serious acid and weed fog of the late 1960's. I bet the album's just kind of "meh," but who cares when you can have an album cover on your wall that features a hot chick stuffing her luscious tit into the mouth of an infant future Master of the Savannah?

Didn't Tori Amos do something similar to the Mama Lion cover-with a piglet? Though I think she copped out and put it in the inner sleeve.
