31 DAYS OF HORROR 2924 -Day 4: THE MUMMY'S SHROUD (1967)

"I say...Haven't we done this story a million times already?"

This final Hammer movie to showcase a bandaged mummy is a rote festival of tepid would-be scares that punctuate a 90-minute catalog of mummy movie cliches. You know the drill: A British expedition violates an ancient Egyptian tomb despite dire warnings of a curse befalling all involved, and a gauze-wrapped murderous rampage ensues.

The film's sole novel element: a mummy wielding an axe.

It's nothing new or even of particular interest, as by this point the legendary Hammer Studios, the company that redefined cinematic horror for the post-Universal era, had truly milked this particular teat dry. I include it here solely for the sake of Hammer completism, and also to advise you to steer clear of it and check out something more worthy of your time.

Poster for the theatrical release. You know you're in trouble when the poster image is by far the scariest thing about the film.
