31 DAYS OF HORROR 2024 -Day 3: THE CURSE OF THE MUMMY'S TOMB (1964)

The umpteenth mummy movie, and once again absolutely nothing new is added to the sub-genre.

I just sat through THE CURSE OF THE MUMMY'S TOMB (1964) while on my way to completing my quest to see every Hammer horror film, and this one comes from out of nowhere to occupy the rock bottom last place in my estimation of the studio's legendary shockers. It's weak, weak, WEAK, with much of the narrative taken up by an uninteresting love triangle, and the mummy not showing up to do his thing until 53 minutes into an 80-minute movie. It does provide an intriguing and unexpected twist during the last nine minutes, but by that point it's too little too late. I freely admit that not everything put out by an iconic studio during its deservedly ballyhooed heyday can be a winner, but this one is an egregious fail from the folks who gave us the likes of THE HORROR OF DRACULA, FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN, and even their 1959 take of Universal's THE MUMMY. Life's too short for weak horror films, so rather than waste your time with this dud, stay home and mine your own buttcrack instead.
