LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ANNUAL #1 (art by Keith Giffen)
For what seems like the eleventy-jillionth time, we get a LEGION ANNUAL #1, but this one reunites the legendary '80's LEGION team of Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen, and the result is a feast for LEGION goons. It's the debut of the a new Emerald Empress — the original was one of my very favorite villains since my childhood — and she gives Lightning Lass, Shrinking Violet, Sensor Girl and Sun Boy (with an assist from Gates) a very rough time indeed. Totally worth the read, this one attracted my attention with that awesome Kirby-esque cover and literally stopped me in my tracks as I passed it on the rack. That image of the Empress looks like the end result of a transporter malfunction involving Hela, The Enchantress, and Big Barda, and I have no problem with that. Fun on a bun and an example of the rare LEGION story where the reader doesn't have to possess a doctorate degree in over five decades of LEGION lore, this one is totally RECOMMENDED.

I still wanna know if they're gonna resolve the whole continuity mess they've created by ignoring the entire "Five Years Later" storyline.
